Evaluation of Survey:

In
my opinion The above shows that the three employees’ opinion differs from each
other. For the companies especially in the food industry, employees’
satisfaction is a must when you are facing with ‘n’ number of competitors. But,
all three employees are somewhat agree that they are not that satisfied with
their salary and benefits package.

The
company should try to add an attractive benefits package if the company cannot
increase the salary range. The benefits package is not in the hands of the
organization.

It
is in the hands of the third party who provides the services to the
organization. It is the responsibility of the organization to find the middle
ground where it satisfies both the employees as well as the third-party service
providers without effecting its profitability because no company wants to lose
their share of profit.

Their satisfaction with their roles and
responsibilities, they do have some factors where they are quite dissatisfied
with their job. It is a known fact that it’s a very hard task to satisfy each
and every employee in the company.

For
some employees, it’s not always the monetary benefits they get at the
workplace, it might be non-monetary benefits or the recognition they get for
their hard work or the opportunity to learn new things which helps them to
progress in career. But for others, it might be monetary benefits that attracts
them towards this position or encourages them to work more effectively and
efficiently.

Part
B: Salary Survey (25 Marks)

Supervisors
are the connecting points between the company’s top management and the
low-level management. They can lead and supervise people same as Managers. It
is essential for the company to know the satisfaction level of their employees.
The salary survey helps the company to know whether the employees are satisfied
with their salary or not as well as what the competitors are paying for the
same position. For a company like A&W, it is very important to have a
competitive advantage of having good salary package backed by efficient
benefits package.

For
the Supervisor position at A&W, the salary range is $10 – $15 per hour (Glassdoor,
n.d.).
Whereas, the salary range for the same position in McDonald’s is $10 – $19.75 (Indeed, n.d.) per hour and Burger
King is $12 – $16 per hour (Glassdoor, n.d.). The average
salaries for the Supervisor position is in between $12.50 and $14.

By
comparing to what the competitors are paying to their employees, A & W pays
a little less than that of Burger King.

The
company should think of increasing the salary range to $13- $16. This range
keeps the A & W in line with that of McDonald’s and Burger King. This
increase in salary won’t have huge effect or impact on the company’s profitability.
This increase in the salary also helps the company to retain their workforce
and reduces turnover rate as well as with this step the company can reduce its
hiring and training costs. Even though the company would be spending more in
terms of salaries, it can save the money in terms of hiring and training new
employees.

The
base salary can be decided based on the employees’ experience, skills and how
well the employee adapts to the company’s policies and procedures.

Part C: Benefits Package

For
the companies, especially in the food industry, creating an attractive and
efficient compensation and benefits package is a very difficult job. The
competitor companies keep on improving their package in order to attract the
efficient and skilled employees from other companies. A & W is not an
exception for this scenario.

Reasons
to have an efficient benefits package:

a.      Helps
to increase to appeal to work for A&W

b.     Increases
retention rate

c.      Increases
employees’ satisfaction level which will have a direct impact on their
performance.

d.     The
benefits package will have added value to the salary offered.

Aside
from the base salary, the company should also include a benefits package which
consists of:

a.      2
weeks paid vacation

b.     3
weeks medical leave

c.      100%
Health Insurance

d.     80%
of Dental and eye care

With
the help of effective benefits package, the company can increase the retention
rate as well as attract the skilled and efficient employees.

Most
organizations do not offer immediate benefits from the beginning. There is usually
a probation period where the fit is determined by both the organization and the
employee- and henceforth the benefits are offered. A quantifiable assessment is
that benefits usually cost employers 1.24-1.4 times of the cost of employment. Thus,
an employee earning a base package of 24000 a year may in fact cost the company
upto 33000 per year.
This is one reason why organizations do not tent to offer benefits immediately,
but at a later stage when they can assume a long-term commitment from the employee.

On
the other perspective, an employee can be motivated to a long-term future with
the organization through the benefit structure. Most organizations offer
benefits through a third-party insurer, who normally offer across the board
benefit package for many employers. Thus, even while an employee may feel
underpaid, a lucrative benefit structure may still hold him to an organization.
